"There!" Erika pointed at several pale dots on the horizon. "Our two o'clock -They're here. They'll be in lock range within a minute."
"Can we do evasive maneuvers?" asked Aoi, worriedly.
The pilot shook his head. "A bird like the A340 is way to big to do anything remotely helpful."
Several white streaks began to shoot outwards from the enemy jets as they locked onto the airliner.
"Missiles incoming!" yelled Erika as Mr. Heiffman attempted in vain to put the aircraft into a dive.
A missile shot right past the cockpit, remarkably missing the entire aircraft altogether.
A second one shot by, but they were not as lucky this time. The missile hit the wing with bang, and immediately there was the sound of engines throttling back. The copilot attempted to level off the plane and accommodate for the failure.
"The number four engine is on fire!" yelled Mr. Heiffman as the engine fire alarm sounded.
"You there," he said, speaking to May, in the copilot's seat. "I need you to go through the engine shutoff checklist."
Erika turned to Fallack. "You should check on the other passengers with Noelle. That rapid descent probably left the others with some nasty injuries."
